3 Ways To Pivot When Your Internship Is Cancelled
Having an internship cancelled is less than ideal but it doesn’t need to stop you from making some true progress in your professional career. Here are 3 ways you can pivot when your internship is cancelled.
Take Classes or Earn Certifications
No internship, no problem! Consider taking some classes to get a jumpstart on next academic year, graduate early or to free up a future semester to try again for internship. I would also encourage you to think about industry certifications.
Certifications through platforms like LinkedIn Learning are a fantastic way to beef up your resume and LinkedIn profile while giving you valuable skills and abilities. You can leverage certifications when you interview for future internships or jobs too!
Network
Don’t underestimate the value of networking when it comes to job searching and building your professional brand. The last 3 jobs I’ve gotten have come through networking. I submitted my resume before the jobs were even posted online- hello hidden job market!
Networking is a great way to learn from people you admire or are inspired by, a chance to practice presenting yourself professionally and could even lead to developing super helpful mentor relationships with industry experts.

Take Time For YOU
Listen, I’m a firm believer that the universe puts us where we need to be wether we are ready for it or not. In an ideal world, you’d be interning right now but here we are, you’re not. So perhaps consider taking some time for yourself!
Now might be the time you’ve been waiting for to focus on your emotional, mental, spiritual or physical well being, so take it. Make some goals, create a plan to succeed in your goals and come back next semester refreshed and ready to thrive.
