How To Customize Your Linkedin URL

Linkedin is a great resource for networking and your job search. It allows you to connect and follow people in the same field as well as apply for jobs across the country and world.

Unlike on other social media platforms, you do not initially sign up for Linkedin and create a unique username. The main way in which you differentiate and define yourself on Linkedin is through your Headline, and a customized Linkedin profile URL.

Why Customize Your Linkedin URL?

Customizing your Linkedin URL helps you to stand out amongst the mass number of people on Linkedin. By customizing your URL you will also make it easier to remember should you give it to someone verbally or simpler when written out.

Lastly, customizing your URL helps with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) which is used when filtering relevant applicants or businesses.

What Should Be In Your Custom Linkedin URL?

The simplest options would be to include your name and or your business name if applicable. You do have a limit on characters so you must be mindful of how much you put into your URL.

EX:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/nadiaibrahim/

If you do not have a business, but want to add more than just your name, consider what you have in your headline. My headline says Writer and Content Creator, and I incorporated this into my URL.

EX:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/madelinejefferson-writer-creator/

If you’re unsure what to put, try looking at your connections and see what they have put into their Linkedin URL’s.
